The Remnant

A Spiritual Revolution

Where can you go on a Friday night and hear a live band, praise and worship Jesus Christ and have a spirtual encounter with God? The Remnant is a unique youth ministry. Through the eight life groups established to give personal attention to each student, the Remnant aims to develop holistic soldiers for Christ. Personal and spiritual growth are of equal importance as the Remnant strives to change the world!

Worship-The Remnant Way

Praise and Worship

It's a typical Friday night in Largo, Maryland, and over 300 teenagers and young adults are jam packed in a tiny room in an office complex eagerly awaiting Vertical band to take the stage. Slowly, band members step into position, pick up their instruments and play chords to test the volume levels. A tall brown skin man grabs a microphone and stands in the middle of the stage. His stern face peers into the audience as he surveys the crowd. Quiet blankets the room as hundreds of excited faces await the percussion beat that allows them to release the frustrations of their week. "Are you ready to praise the Lord!?" he shouts. In unison the crowds screams a boisterous "Yeah!" "Well let's go!" he responds.

Alliance

Leadership

Unwavering dedication to Christ, compassion, motivation, perseverance and a desire to have as much fun as possible are a few of the qualities of Alliance team members. It takes a uniquely gifted individual to use their lived experiences as examples to minister to youth. Over 30 young adults have taken the Remnant pledge to transform the lives of young people through the messages of Jesus Christ.

Inspiration

I first heard Vertical band play on December 31, 2007 at the New Year's Eve night watch service at Zion Church. I was in awe by the energy of the band members and crowd that surrounded the stage to sing, dance and worship God. When I needed a semester project for my photojournalism independent study, I knew Remnant was the perfect group to document. How can over 250 high school and college students be so motivated and dedicated to serving Jesus Christ that they have taken the pledge to be soldiers for God? Take on the mission of spreading His message through out their schools, neighborhoods, towns, cities, counties, states and ultimately the world. I tried to remain objective and focused on documenting the Remnant experience, specifically praise and worship. However, as the weeks passed, God began to speak to me. Photojournalism was simply the vehicle that was going to lead me to change my life and accept the Remnant mission. I told the youth pastor, PJ (Pastor Joe Lee), that I just came on Friday nights to take pictures, not to completely change my life! Obviously God had bigger and better plans for me. These are a selection of my pictures from the past four months. I've been inspired and ultimately changed, I hope you are too.
